Paid In Full

A little boy came up to his mother in the kitchen one evening and handed her a piece of paper that said:

Mother owes Jin:

For cutting the grass: $5.00

For cleaning up my room this week: $1.00

For going to the store for her: $0.50

For babysitting my baby brother while she went shopping: $0.25

For takeing out the garbage: $1.00

For cleaning up and raking the yard: $2.00

For sweeping the floor: $5.00

Total that Mother owes Jin: $14.75

His mother smiled but did not say anything. Instead she picked up a pen, turned over the paper he had written on and wrote this:

Jin owes Mother:

For the 9 months I carried him while he was growing inside me: Nothing

For All the nights I have sat up with him, changed his diapers: Nothing.

For nursing him through his chicken pox: Nothing

For all the toys, food & clothes he has: Nothing

For his beautiful room: Nothing

Total that Jin owes Mother: Nothing

When the boy finished reading what his mother had written, he had big tears in his eyes. He ran towards his mother, hugged her and said, “I love you, Mother.” Then he took a pen and in great big letters, wrote. “Paid In Full”.
